SAP Cloud and On-Premise Deployment Options
Solution
As per the below documentation the following deployment options are available => https://blogs.sap.com/2019/08/22/sap-s4hana-cloud-and-on-premise-deployment-options/
- SAP Cloud: Previously called Essentials Edition (ES) and Multi-Tenant Edition (MTE).
- SAP Cloud Extended Edition: Previously called Single-Tenant Edition (STE)
- SAP Cloud, Private Cloud Edition (new in 2021, PCE)
- On-Premise managed by SAP (known as HEC)
- On-Premise: On-Premise or hosted in Cloud Provider Hyperscalers.
SAP Cloud: previously called Essentials Edition (ES) and Multi-Tenant Edition (MTE) (1)
Software as a Service (SaaS) only available as SAP S/4 HANA. It is not supported by Winshuttle as this solution is controlled by SAP entirely with no access to the database, server etc. Therefore, no additional add-ons can be installed on the SAP Server (e.g. WFM installation is not possible).
SAP Cloud Extended Edition: previously called Single-Tenant Edition (STE) (2)
Also Software as a Service (SaaS) and only available as S/4HANA. However, this release is customer specific and more customisation and development is possible. Supported by Winshuttle.
SAP Cloud, Private Cloud Edition (new in 2021 and known as PCE) (3)
The latest offering from SAP to host SAP applications, as Software as a Service (SaaS), using Hyperscalers, but with SAP managing the infrastructure, database and Basis layers. Supported by Winshuttle. Is typically applicable for SAP S/4 HANA.
On-Premise managed by SAP (HEC) (4)
Software as a Service (SaaS). It is applicable for SAP S/4 HANA and ECC System. It is supported as long as a customer is meeting our product’s technical requirements.
On-Premise: On-Premise or managed by cloud provider Hyperscalers (5)
Either hosted in the customer own datacentre or partner hosted Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). Is applicable for SAP S/4 HANA and ECC System. It is supported by Winshuttle. This solution is managed either by the customer or by the partner.
Examples of Hyperscalers =>
- Microsoft Azure
- AWS (Amazon Web Service)
- GCP (Google Cloud Platform)
Note:
Option 1 is only available as SAP S/4HANA 2020 (e.g. with the latest SAP S/4 HANA release).
Option 2 is only available as SAP S/4HANA.
Option 3 is typically available as SAP S/4HANA but in exceptional circumstances SAP will support existing non SAP S/4HANA installations, for example SAP ECC, as Private Cloud Edition (PCE)
Options 4 and 5 are available as any SAP release supported by SAP (e.g. SAP S/4HANA or ECC).
Option 1 is not supported by Winshuttle.
For options 2, 3 and 5 use the WFM compatibility matrix to determine which version of the WFM to use for both SAP S/4HANA and non-S/4HANA releases: https://docs.winshuttle.com/winshuttle-function-module-en-online-help/wfm-compatibility.htm
Winshuttle requires SAP GUI to connect to SAP. Access to SAP via the Fiori Launchpad is not supported by Winshuttle.
