SQL Server Not Available

Description

Sometimes when starting one of the Winshuttle Windows services, the service may fail. In the Windows Event application log, there will be a SQL not available error.

Applies To

Any version.

Cause

A SQL not available error can indicate several issues:
  • The SQL server drives are full.
  • The SQL server is reachable, but an issue is causing SQL not to respond.

Solution

  • Check the SQL server and ensure all the SQL services are started.
  • Check the drives on the SQL server and ensure the disks are not full.
  • Check the Event Viewer on the SQL server for any other errors.

Additional Information

Applications sometimes capture more detailed information on the error. Check Winshuttle logs for a reference to the error. A good target is the log related to the service that is failing. For instance, if the Winshuttle Worker service fails, check the Winshuttle Worker logs.
