Description

When attempting to connect to an SAP system, a message pops up and says SAP Logon error: "Start 'sapgui' failed."

Cause

This error sometimes occurs when you try to launch the SAP GUI from Winshuttle software, even though you are able to launch SAP GUI directly.

Winshuttle software uses an RFC connection to call the SAP GUI. Because this error is specific to this type of connection, you see it only during the use of Winshuttle programs or other similar programs.

​This error indicates an issue with the SAP GUI installation or with the registry settings associated with it.

Solution

Check with your BASIS team to confirm that all of the authorizations have been provided (especially RFC authorizations).  See Additional Information for a link to our authorization article.

There may also be an issue with your installation or registry settings for SAP GUI.
